This is a very nice place to paddle in NE Louisiana. There aren’t any large boats because it is a stumpy lake. The small motor boats that are there go slow because of the many stumps. The area around the lake is all natural because the lake is surrounded by the Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Management area.
The shore of the lake is surrounded by button willow and cypress trees. It is a duck sanctuary, and in the winter a paddler can get close to 100’s, sometimes 1000’s of duck, of all types. NO GUNS ALLOWED. A camera would be a good asset thought.
There are only two boat launches. One is owned by the Federal WMA, there are usually lots of bank fishermen there. Leave your car there at your own risk. The other is private. It will cost you $3.00 to launch there but it is safer, and everything will be just as you left it when you get back.
You will find fishermen there. The lake is noted for its good fishing. Bass, bream and catfish are caught in the hot months. The locals run yo-yo’s at night during the winter.
